remember the illustrious miracle performed by Jesus Crucified
Father of Mercy November 20, 1626

Hint historical

fever, so that massacre had done in Europe, in 1626 struck the populous city of Nicosia. Nine thousand people had already perished, including three heroic Franciscan consacratisi voluntarily to comfort those affected: Father Bonaventura Bellagamba from Nicosia, the Venerable One Bedroom Nicosia Michelangelo and Fra Brunello di San Fratello of the Reformed Order of St. Maria Jesus squalor and terror prevailed among the survivors, but when there was any human remedy there was the hand of God Almighty to make a public, a remarkable miracle. A simple virgin of the monastery of the Immaculate Conception in Santa Cristina knew in a vision, to avert the scourge that had to lead a procession through the streets of the city the statue of the crucified Jesus, the Father of Mercy.
The Clergy, the Senate and all the people joined with great joy that inspiration, though the crowd was a clump of danger of destruction. But they Nicosiani faith, and the official procession, a solemn and crowded took place. Approached the image of Jesus Crucified to hospital, set up in the plane S. Elijah stood healed the sick, even the most serious, and the procession began with a river of tears ended with songs of joy.
Nicosia was saved!
That was the 3rd Friday, November 20, 1626. The Senate Nicosia, representation of the city, offered a silver tiara that still adorns the head of the revered image, decreed that each year, said a public announcement of penance be celebrated at the expense of the City the 3rd Friday of November, and placed in the Chapel of the Crucifix inscription in Latin, which translated reads:

Sun

This great doctor of Nicosia, as it offers the same city costantissima witness to so much virtue in the world, but in year 1626, afflicted by the poison of the plague free and already about nine thousand men, warned by heavenly devotion, carried around this holy statue, people with enthusiasm and solemn speech by the two clergy, put down this deadly disease and returned fully restored health to these people, November 20, day on Friday. Wherefore, mindful of so singular benefit, made the solemn celebration every year ex voto
the 3rd Friday of that mese.

"Water in the mouth"

VIS: Alessandra and Luca Callegaro Cristaldi

An article spread by word of mouth via e-mail and blogs denouncing the privatization of public water in Italy, while they continue the grassroots mobilization in defense of a common good.

Rosaria Ruffini

"While long-standing debates raging in the country on the apron at school, on a leash for the dog and the scourge of graffiti, the Berlusconi government without telling anyone has started the privatization of public water.
Parliament voted to Rule 23 bis of Legislative Decree 112 of Minister Tremonti who said that the management of water services should be subject to the rules of the capitalist economy. So the Berlusconi government in Italy has ruled that the water will not be as a public good, but a commodity and therefore, will be managed by international corporations (which already possess the same mineral water). Even in Latin
Veolia (multinational which operates the local water) has decided to increase the bills of 300%. Consumers who complain, Veolia sent its teams of armed vigilantes and policemen to remove the counters.
The privatization of water that is happening globally will result in the next few years, millions of deaths from thirst in the poorest countries. Water is sacred in every country, culture and faith of the world: man is made of 65% water, and this is what the Italian government is putting up for sale. The water gushing from the earth is not a commodity, is a fundamental human right and no one can appropriate it to derive illicit profit. Water is the white gold that will fight the next wars. Wars that will be directed by multinationals to which today the government, concerned about the aprons, is selling 65% of our body.

Rugrats Wildlife Rescue Game That Works!

FROM THE BOOK OF ALBERTO MICALISED
The heart in the suitcase
published by "Il Quadrifoglio" Livorno 2006
( published by the Foundation)

Caramel Giglia
(1862 - 1922), poet nicosia
A century after the publication of "Musa vernacular"

... .. Alongside the work of the reporter and the journalist, the poet-chemist Carmelo La Giglia represents the set of feelings of loneliness and hope of those who started and sense of hopeless defeat of those who were unable to find the fortune idealized in the long ordeal that had preceded the exodus.
dialect poet of great depth, he used the dialect cock Italic - a legacy of the Normans and Hohenstaufen in Sicily to remind its citizens abroad, especially those who had moved to the United States. And they devoted in particular to a single act, A Mereca , to press together with Musa vernacular poetry collection, published by Typography in Nicosia in 1908 and dedicated to his friend Mariano La Via, one of the most careful scholars of the rooster Italic dialect, the author of important essays on the subject. Mariano La Via was, for the poet nicosia, the man of culture involved in the study of folklore and history of the city, a staunch defender of the character of a citizen who saw the editor of The Echo of the Mountains and elected him to Parliament for College of Nicosia in 1909.
With this - the sale of which was entirely for the benefit of cookers for the poor fellow - the poet thanked the Way for the love shown in studies on the dialect linguists Nicosia. The same professor
MA Garrone, in the letter in response to a court poet who asked him about his work, he saw the sketch dramatic Mereca A simply wonderful, as built on "perfect figures, came up without difficulty, without study, with an unparalleled touch of happiness" and Thus, truthful in its development. Mariano La Via
arranged to send Musa vernacular in 250 copies and the minimum price of 50 money overseas. The news was spread through American cities in an article in the Italian language newspaper The Telegraph. Mutual benefit between the various organizations, the Society of Mutual Aid between the workers of Nicosia in New York Head Brothers picked up the sum - great for those years - 10 pounds, so it deserves special thanks from the prosindaco Way, said that as the organization of the workers had honored with the gesture represented the social class and "also our emigrants, which are always and everywhere Nicosiani, Italians. " La Giglia
entertained in the first person in close contact with associations Nicosiani of America, which recognized the effort to maintain strong roots of its members love for a land that no longer have the opportunity to review. The love of his countrymen abroad, he proved especially with the verses that he sent to New York in connection with various celebrations that Youth Nicosia was used to do regularly with members, and the company erbitense, grateful to their singer, elected him an honorary member for life. In
rhymes published in the collection Frizzi and caresses of 1911 reflected, in addition to the pride of being able to send payments to an association admiration and grief for not being present at the meeting friendly, bitterness at having to leave a country that had requested the blood of so many fellow countrymen during the uprisings, and then, once brought to completion the country's unity, he had abandoned his children to their fate, forcing them to emigrate. Bitterness also accompanied by the finding that the conduct of the government was Savoy often justified by the servility which characterized the Italian political class.
The report was consistent with the New York society, as evidenced for example by other verses of the poet's friendly at the meeting held by the organization in support of the war effort during the war in Libya in 1911.
Carmelo La Giglia became "prophet" of the Italian company, seeing in the conquest of the African territory the opportunity for colonization by the Italian masses, yet forced to emigrate overseas.
The conquest of the Italian troops in the provinces of Derna, Tripoli and Benghazi that would permit the return of villagers who are new colonizers of acquisita terra italiana, degna di essere fecondata del proprio sudore.

Herpes And Stomach Issues

"Carlo Basilotta"
our hospital

The current health facility, was inaugurated in June 1979

of Anthony Campione

***

very old and of unknown origin is our hospital. It is said esistesse all'epoca delle ultime Crociate e pare funzionasse regolarmente durante il passaggio da Nicosia di Carlo V il 16 e 17 ottobre 1535, reduce dall'impresa di Tunisi, che proveniente da Palermo per andare a Messina attraverso una strada interna passò da Nicosia e vi istituì i 24 baroni. Una costituzione della Congregazione di S. Antonio della Pace, l'antica chiesa attigua all'attuale tempio di S. Antonio Abbate, redatta nel 1780, nel capitolo riservato al servigio dell'ospedale, ci parla di una chiesa dell'ospedale dove i confrati "divotamente preghino Sua Divina Maestà, che loro conceda di poter con carità far quello servizio", ma non ci descrive come soddisfare i bisogni spirituali degli ammalati, come benedire e servire loro il meal "with love" those so weak that they are not able to be able to use his own hands, the religious services on Saturday evening and also takes care of the deficiencies that the brothers could commit in the exercise of their mission, and replacement of those not well dressed comp by sick patients.
Signs are that the building used for hospital, originally was to be adjacent to the church of S. Antonio Abbate, and exactly what they stand facing the square of the same name and everything before the church, with an entrance from the alley and the Church of Peace Hospital where it comes in the said Constitution.
This hypothesis would find support in the ledges of stone, visible even today, and originally left for the continuation of the building instead was replaced with the church of S. Anthony Abbate. Subsequently, the Institute
Pio, moved his seat in the building where he was a Benedictine monastery, which was left by those granted to the Confraternity of St. Calogero belonging to the homonymous church (also known as the Agonizzanti SM). The church of S. Calogero stood under the hill of the Savior, leaning against a rock called "mole of San Calogero" from whose name remains the memory of S. Calogero old. His fraternity had existed since 1580 and after the founding of the hospital took over the care of patients helped in this by comp Oratory of Peace, which was superior with the two rectors of the pawnshop, the hospital administration until 1818, after this date, the hospital administration was delegated to the Mayor and two members elected by the settlers of the city.
At the end of 1600, the comp left the church under the wheels and built the current hospital building which was also dedicated to St. Mary of the dying. The hospital had its own lanes open in the current building D'Alessandro, behind the church of San Calogero and whereas before only took care of strangers, following the enlargement of the local lanes opened also to the residents of Nicosia.
It seems certain that the Pio Istituto least in the eighteenth century, did not own property and owned many of his supposed benefactors or less are passed to the city's history .... sale of smoke that serious and more tangible reason for that was as Vicar General, who in his will he remembered of our hospital to let him heir to the trappings of his car!
But the real and great benefactors of our hospital may say so, grouped into two names: the Chevalier and Miss Helen Joseph Nicosia Nicosia San Giajme. The
hp. Giuseppe Nicosia, who died January 20, 1899 (the eve of the alienation of property via Fratelli Testa), left Spataro, the feud as a legacy to the hospital and Miss Elena Nicosia San Giajme died September 10, 1930 Tenimento of the "Holy Sunday", and about twenty thousand francs a year in government bonds.
Professor. rag. Salvatore Bruno, a member of the Congregation of Charity of Nicosia, which administers the charity, November 12, 1910 report to the President and all members of the congregation, in exposing the plight faced by individual institutions, report on their operation , on capital and finance "and what should be in similar businesses, to perform an administrative action quickly and effectively accomplished." From these dates
our hospital seems to have taken a real autonomy that the years to follow has remained independent.
But the steady erosion of the pound and the breakdown of land ownership and all the incredible chaotic legislation, have inflicted mortal bodies at that age-old charitable institution.
During the years of World War II, was bombed, and died on that occasion: a volunteer Maria Cirino Capra, who died on 22/07/1943 and nurse voluntary CRI Costanza Bruno Salomone, died on 23/07/1943.
After reconstruction and expansion of the premises, the former convent in Piazza S. Paolini Francesco address of the hospital that he remained until 1979, and moved again at the new Via San Giovanni, designed around the seventies with new construction criteria.

Basilotta
Family News on our "Civic Hospital"

, 1954 An article published in "The Echo of the Mountains", a fortnightly independent of the city of Nicosia, founded in 1905 by Mariano La Via says Family history Basilotta in the hospital is named.
"We need the kind permission of Bishop Vitale the possibility of being able to do some research in the archives of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, research that have allowed us to dispel a myth about the origins of the founding of our hospital named after Charles Basilotta, character which until today except che il nome di una nostra strada cittadina a lui dedicata ed un quadro (vedi la foto in alto) che c'è lo raffigura nella sua giovane età, fortunatamente rinvenutosi, poichè con eccessiva legerezza era stato dato per distrutto durante gli ultimi episodi bellici, null'altro conoscevasi.
I dati storici cominciano coi nomi dei due figli del barone Antonino Basilotta, due vere grandi figure di filantropi, troppo ingiustamente obliate, who started very young, although the uplifting series of charities continue after the families of the barons Nicosia, Falco and Sangjaime to mention only the most important as an input means, really honored that our city, and show the real feelings of the facts coll'evidenza of these noble families Nicosia, observed today, centuries later.
Basilotta Di Giovanni, the younger son of Baron Antonino, who was born in 1647, we know that person was dedicated exclusively to the asset. He was responsible, with the cooperation of Baron Nicosia, the foundation of the Monte di Pietà in our city. For his acts of philanthropy was reduced to begging, so that his two sons, Anthony and Joseph to live were forced to engage in the work camps, they participate in the quality manual for farmers, while the only daughter Anna was entrusted to the elder brother Charles, Baron S. Andrea. This was Basilotta
Charles, passed away very early age, was born in 1645 and died in 1672, enjoying our city turned around the economic conditions of the hospital, requiring only as compensation to his handouts that the revived Institute was its name that he still retains. It is part of the last years of his short life, a romantic episode, which still bears new light on the chivalrous feelings of this patrician.
lived in his palace two young women of Muslim origin. Nothing is known about their place of birth and their age except that a few words bequeathed to us by the acts. Of course you will be treated slaves, spoils of some enterprise corsaresca lawful in those days, the young baron bought in Palermo or Catania and led him as "ancillae" so says the act of baptism. What is certain is that on October 6, 1670 the two women were named by Charles Basilotta, which requires them not only the name but the name, and two sisters, it is reasonable to assume, are well recorded in the records of the church, with the name of Anna Basilotta small and large with the ninth Barbara Basilotta.
Simultaneously with this event it happens another: the baptism and the legitimacy of a newborn baby named Joseph, who obviously can not be a child born with a love of two sisters that Carlo Basilotta to put peace in his conscience would legitimize.
The three acts, however, are not registered and only after the death of Charles Basilotta occurred 19 days after January 31, 1672, it is assumed by the public interest and are regularly recorded.
Basilotta Charles during his short life, lived dominated by the influence of the Minor Friars, near the convent, and in fact he was enrolled in the Confraternity of the PM as the brother and died after receiving the last sacraments of the Church.
the heritage of the Fathers Charles Minor became the directors and delivered to Anna Basilotta, the daughter of John, the estate of S. Andrea, gave the title of baron and detained seven fiefdoms that made up the bulk of the inheritance of the house of S. Andrea.
Basilotta Joseph, the second of two sons of John and grandson of Charles, was proclaimed in Nicosia Captain of Justice in 1706-1707, this very important office in those days. Armed with his new position, made the mistake of starting practice for the redemption of the title and the family property Basilotta, which had seized the Friars Minor, bumping it against the interests of the Church. This request
and perhaps the tone in which the same was made, aroused the ire of the powerful Order and therefore was declared outlawed and forced so to move away from his hometown, without giving further news of his new residence. The great landed property
Basilotta consists of seven estates namely: Sugar, Gorgo, poo, Cologno, Nasco, Larbi Carotta and remained in the Minor Friars, while that of S. As Andrea said, had been given ... by the same monks the death of Charles to his niece Anna, who had been entrusted. The city of Nicosia
the act complained of Fathers and Children Basilotta was the loss of plant, recognizing men of energy and goodness of heart.
also go back to this date the resignation of a noble family Nicosia by the Brotherhood of Monte di Pietà (which was founded by Anthony Basilotta the father of Joseph proscribed) in solidarity with family Basilotta, which was linked by ties of kinship.
Basilotta The legitimate son of Charles, who was also named Joseph, married 20 October 1720 (at the age of fifty years says he was born as the faith of legitimacy, which is preserved in the archives of our Cathedral), the daughter of Baron Don Philip Nicosia.

The unpublished photo of "Christ enthroned between the Virgin and the Baptist" by Antonello Gagini, is taken from "Gagini and Gaginesque in Nicosia ", thesis of the Sac.
XVI).

________

The river downstream of Salsa is located 4 km south of the city of Nicosia. In the past it was crossed by major communication trazzere: one coming from Nicosia, known as Serra Battle for the long-known factions which divided the city, enter the Gate in Nicosia for Rabbit, which also moved the dirt road for Troina. The dirt road
Channel was active until 1903, there are still traces of it that climb to tortuous climb up to Saint John. A deviation of this dirt road crosses the district Marenga. Today the valley is accessible from this consortium Stadell and other rolling stock and tracks, accessible from the San Giovanni which overlook the slopes fearful that from 750 meters above sea level of the door of S. John down to the 491 meters on the river bed Salso. It consists of the districts
Farinato, Maritan, St. John, Salinella, S. New Maria on the southern side, and the Chalk districts, Marengo, Fountain Square and Canal on the northern side.
The valley floor is mostly flat, fertile, rich and pleasant to vegetation of olive trees, fruit trees, wheat and legumes. The whole countryside is populated by small houses, which form the backdrop to the River. Here took place the life of the ancient farmers in the fields of peace and serenity, broken only by the roar of the river water. The area is full of white limestone rock, the water that flows is brackish and bitter. Many mines were active in the past in this valley, were also the many famous kilns of chalk. According to the Beritelli Way, were drawn here by 8 columns sorregono the porch and steps of the altar of the Cathedral, the handrails of the choirs of several churches in Nicosia and the stones to build the palaces of the city. There are also many salt mines, which was exported to neighboring countries, the bituminous rocks and clay used in the manufacture of tiles, bricks, pots and pans, baked in kilns that stood near.
Successivamente, qualche km further north, another house was built to support the monastery to collect the taxes of the upper part of the feud. It still exists in fair condition. At the end of 1600, due to poor health of the place, and after more than 50 years of uncertainty, the monastery was abandoned and left to the government of a priest appointed by the Prior General. This is to avoid the clause of the donation, for which the fee if abandoned by the monks would return to the donor. Finally abandoned after the revolutionary laws of 1866 that abollirono ecclesiastical possessions, the estate became the property of Nicosia and later the Special and then in the fifties was sold to other private individuals. To visit the valley there
to get away from S. Via S. Benedetto and Anna and then go along the road consolrziale Canalotto-Salty river. From there a small street leading to a few tens of meters from the monastery, a huge work in spite of the medieval past centuries retain the original structure. It is built with stones of different types (sandstone, limestone, lava), and the carvings are made of gray stone of St. John. The whole complex consists of two areas: a western part consists of a large structure, perhaps around a living room with a few small rooms, and a southern part of substantial size. It is accessed by a door and this means a square hallway with some stairs to get to the ruins of what was the real set of 20 cells.
A poca distanza, non più di quaranta metri, sorge la chiesa dove sono ancora visibili l'altare e le pitture the walls are in good condition under the rubble can be seen the brick floor late sixteenth-century paintings, as well as a cornice with two lateral niches. Two hundred meters from the church there is a kiosk with four strings and an eighteenth-century baronial home.
Nelkla upper part of the river, stands the Benedictine another building consists of a two-story structure, in very poor condition, it is accessed by a small road that starts from the door of S. John. From this road you will reach even the country house of Baron Salinella, built in ashlar stone with terra cotta pottery.
